How IPTV works in the Netherlands

More and more households in the Netherlands watch TV over the internet: on the smart TV in the living room, a streaming stick on the spare-room TV or a tablet at the kitchen table. With Open Tivi that works without a satellite dish, an installer or a contract. You install a player app, log in and have over 150 Dutch and Flemish channels to hand, straight over your existing fiber or cable broadband.

The Dutch-language line-up is made up of 110+ Dutch channels and 45+ Belgian channels. You'll find the main national channels, regional channels from the provinces, news, documentaries, film and series channels, sports, kids and music, in HD and in 4K where available. Whether you're an expat in Amsterdam, live in Flanders or have family on both sides of the border, it's all in the same subscription.

On top of that you get our full international line-up of 35,000+ channels and 95,000+ movies and series on demand. Our channel page shows how many channels each country has, but the quickest way to check your favorites are there is the free trial, with no credit card needed.

Which devices are popular in the Netherlands and Belgium?

In the Netherlands the Fire TV Stick is by far the most popular choice: small, affordable and connected to any TV with an HDMI port in a few minutes. Our Firestick guide takes you through it step by step. Android TV boxes are also widely used and work with the same apps.

If you have a recent Samsung or LG television, you often don't need an extra device at all. See our guides to IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV and IPTV on an LG Smart TV. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and computers work well too. Prefer a classic set-top box? We activate a portal for your box's MAC address, and our guide to MAG boxes explains everything.

Multilingual households and internet speed

The Netherlands and Belgium are multilingual, and the line-up reflects that. The same subscription includes large Turkish, Surinamese and Moroccan/Arabic sections, so parents, grandparents and kids all find their own channels. With a plan for 2, 3 or 4 connections everyone can watch on their own screen at the same time, and catch-up is available on supported channels.

Dutch broadband is usually more than fast enough: aim for at least 10 Mbps per screen for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K, which most fiber and cable plans clear easily. Connect the TV with a network cable or over 5 GHz Wi-Fi where you can. If something isn't running smoothly, our support team is there 24/7 by email or WhatsApp.
